Recently, Qualcomm has also confirmed that their upcoming Mobile Platform SD 855 will also built-in on the same 7nm FinFET node. Both Qualcomm and Huawei are using TSMC's 7nm process for producing their new generation Flagship chipsets.

Talking about the Kirin 980, Huawei has confirmed it to feature dual NPU (Neural Processing Units). The last year's Kirin 970 was the world's first SoC to come with a dedicated NPU.
Compared to the previous 10nm processor, this 7nm processor is said to improve the performance upto 40% and efficiency upto 20%. It packs a total of 6.9Billion transistors. Moreover it is also the world's first SoC to use the new Cortex A-76 cores and Mali-G76 GPU. The chipset packs 2x Cortex A-76 cores @ 2.60GHz 2x Cortex A-76 Cores @ 1.92GHz and 4x Cortex A-55 cores @ 1.80 GHz.

With these improvements the chipset will provide better multi-tasking and smoother user experience along with quicker app launch. Compared to the previous Mali-G72 GPU, the Mali-G76 offers 46% greater graphics processing power and 178% improved power effiency.

The dual NPU will further improves the device's AI experience like much faster image recognition capability. The dual ISP on this chipset is mentioned to provide better support for multi-camera configuration and also the new HDR color reproduction technology.
It is also the world's first SoC to support 2133MHz LPDDR4X Memory. It packs Cat.21 LTE modem that offers speed upto 1.4Gbps. With all these latest innovations the Kirin 980 will surely be a powerhouse SoC.
